A 23-year-old Sudbury man has been charged with impaired driving after the OPP received a complaint May 22 about a possible impaired driver approaching the scene of a collision between a tractor-trailer and train on Highway 144 in the Levack area.

At 2:20 p.m. that day, the Nipissing West OPP detachment responded to a traffic complaint regarding a possible impaired driver travelling southbound on Highway 144, approaching the collision scene at Marina Road.

With the assistance of an officer from Canadian Pacific Police Service, the vehicle was stopped. Investigation revealed the driver had been consuming alcohol and was subsequently arrested.

As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old man from Sudbury was charged with operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 Plus).

The accused was released by way of an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Aug. 5 in Sudbury.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

This charge marks the 23rd driver charged under criminal impaired driving laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2020.

The OPP remains committed to ensuring Ontario roads are safe from alcohol-impaired and drug-impaired drivers.
