The Manitoulin OPP released its January crime stats this week, showing the detachment responded to 735 calls for service during the month.

These calls included:

  • Two Impaired Driving by Alcohol Occurrences
  • Two Warn Range Suspensions (impaired driving)
  • 35 Motor Vehicle Collisions, including five personal injuries
  • One Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision
  • 13 Violent Crimes
  • 23 Property Crimes
  • Two Drug Related Occurrences

Unsurprisingly, motor vehicle collisions remain the most common reason for a service call. In response to this, Manitoulin OPP encourages motorists to drive according to weather conditions, allow for extra time in winter travel and to always drive sober.
