Two suspects from southern Ontario charged

Two people from southern Ontario face drug charges after the Ontario Provincial Police stopped a speeding vehicle on Highway 69 on Aug. 30.

A small quantity of drugs, suspected to be cannabis, was found. Police also discovered the vehicle was packed with more than $45,000 in Canadian currency, which was seized.

The OPP reported pulling over the vehicle around 3:15 p.m. for speeding. While speaking with the occupants, officers detected an odour of cannabis. Further investigation revealed the driver was breaching a condition from a previous release order, police said.

The vehicle was also seized and towed.

He was remanded in custody and was scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice bail court on Sept. 1 in Sudbury.

A 28-year-old woman from Toronto has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and having care or control of a vehicle with cannabis readily available.
