OPP seize $100K in drugs, guns and stolen property

Three people facing charges following raid in Massey last month

Three people are facing a host of charges following a Dec. 16 raid by the Manitoulin OPP that netted more than $100,000 in stolen vehicles, drugs, weapons and other items.

Police, with help from the tactical response unit, the emergency response team and the crime unit, made the arrests using a search warrant for an address in the Sables-Spanish Rivers Township.

Among the items seized were:

  • Controlled drugs and substances valued at approximately $19,000;
  • Vehicles valued at approximately $35,000;
  • Firearms valued at approximately $730;
  • Machinery and tools valued at approximately $13, 500; and,
  • Miscellaneous items valued at approximately $31,500.

The 62-year-old suspect of Massey, is charged with possession of stolen property, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm and careless storage of a firearm. He was released on a promise to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Feb. 3.

The 21-year-old suspect of M'Chigeeng First Nation, is charged with two counts of theft under $5,000, break and enter to commit an indictable offence, two counts of possession of illegal drugs (opioids) for the purpose of trafficking, possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking, as well as two other trafficking charges. She's scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Jan. 20.

The 38-year-old suspect of Massey is facing numerous charges, including:

  • Three counts of possession of illegal drugs (opioids) for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking;
  • Possession of other illegal drugs for the purpose of trafficking; 
  • Five counts of possession of stolen property worth more than $5,000;
  • Break and enter to commit indictable offence;
  • Two counts of unauthorized possession of weapon;
  • Careless storage of a firearm;
  • Two counts of unauthorized possession of a firearm;
  • Failure to comply with release conditions;
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition while prohibited under a court order.

The accused was sent to bail court in Sudbury and remains in custody with a scheduled bail hearing on Jan. 9.

“The Manitoulin OPP is requesting anyone who has had property stolen which has not yet been recovered to come forward in an attempt to identify some property,” police said in the news release.
