There were two single-vehicle collisions involving a motorized snow vehicle (MSV), or snowmobile, that occurred Friday, in Greater Sudbury, one of which resulted in charges.

At 6:35 p.m. on March 5, members from the Nipissing West (Sudbury) detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), along with Sudbury Emergency Medical Services (EMS), responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision on OFSC Trail D, in Markstay-Warren.

Further investigation revealed that the 53-year-old driver, from Alma, had been travelling the trail when he struck a coyote, ejecting him from the snowmobile. He suffered non-life threatening injuries as a result.

No charges were laid, according to a press release by Nipissing West OPP.

The second incident occurred around 10:25 p.m. that evening, on Nepewassi Lake in Estaire.

Investigation into this incident revealed that the snowmobile had been towing people in a sleigh at the time when it struck a dock. A 19-year-old woman was the only passenger reported to have sustained minor injuries as a result.

The investigation remains ongoing.
