Ontario Provincial Police said one person is facing impaired driving charges after officers responded to a minor motor vehicle collision on the weekend, where one vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle, an SUV.
It happened on Highway 17 in the community of Walden at roughly 11 a.m. Sunday, said the OPP news release. No injuries were reported.
As police responded to investigate the call, they interviewed the driver of the SUV. As it turned out, police determined that an intoxicating substance had been consumed.
The driver was arrested and transported to the Espanola detachment for further testing, said the release.
As a result, police said the driver, a 25-year-old from woman from Markstay, was charged with: Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired by drugs
Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
Two counts of driving while under suspension
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Feb. 3, said the release.
The OPP said it has highly trained Drug Recognition Evaluator (DRE) officers who are skilled in the detection and investigation of drug impaired drivers.
Should you observe a suspected impaired driver on our roads, waterways or trails, don't hesitate to "MAKE THE CALL" and dial 911. Your phone call could save someone's life, said the release.
