Greater Sudbury Police have arrested a man in relation to a stolen poppy box in Downtown Sudbury.

Sometime on Nov. 3, an individual was caught on video stealing a poppy donation box from the Subway restaurant on Brady Street, said Staff Sgt. Daryl Adams.

The footage was collected Friday night and shared with the officers on duty Saturday’s staff. The man was recognized from prior, unrelated incidents, Adams said.

Police used this information to position themselves in an area the suspect was known to frequent, which paid off when the suspect was arrested sometime Saturday morning.

Adams said the individual is not believed to be related to the theft of five other poppy boxes earlier this year.

The suspect, who is around 20 years of age and a resident of Greater Sudbury, was in breach of several court orders at the time of arrest and in possession of multiple stolen credit cards.

As a result, the individual has been charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, and breach of a court order for failing to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The suspect is set to appear in Sudbury bail court Nov. 10 to face the charges.
