A four-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle on Second Avenue Saturday afternoon and was transported to Health Sciences North in serious but stable condition, police have confirmed.

Greater Sudbury Police Staff Sgt. Derick Rose said the boy was on foot when he was struck. Rose said he was later flown to SickKids in Toronto for treatment.

Greater Sudbury Police have closed both lanes of Second Avenue North from Kenwood Street to Scarlett Road after what they’ve described as a serious motor vehicle collision.

One individual has been transported to Health Sciences North for treatment.

The traffic management unit is investigating the incident and has advised that both lanes of Second Avenue North will be closed for a lengthy period of time.

Citizens are asked to use alternative routes in order to avoid frustrations.
