Police have busy weekend

Over the long holiday weekend, officers of the traffic management unit with Greater Sudbury Police conducted spot checks within the city as well as conducting selective traffic enforcement.

Spot checks conducted Friday and Saturday stopped 630 vehicles and three persons were charged with impaired driving. Six people were issued 12-hour suspensions and 17 Highway Traffic Act charges were laid.

Traffic enforcement officers were busy as well, as they laid 53 Highway Traffic Act charges ranging from speeding to drivers failing to properly wear seatbelts.

The highest speed recorded was 115 kilometres per hour in a posted 80 kilometre per hour zone on Highway 69 N. in Valley East.

The traffic management unit reminds the public, there will be periodic spot checks throughout the summer season and the unit will continue to enforce compliance with posted speed limits.
