Police identify 66-year-old Killarney-area man as victim of a fatal boating mishap

Ontario Provincial Police are investigating the boating death of a 66-year-old Killarney resident.

Members of the Nipissing West (Noëlville) Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police said they received a report Saturday, Oct. 24 of an overturned vessel in Georgian Bay. 

The report was from a local resident en-route to check on the boat which could be seen on a shoal in the area known as "The Chickens" at the mouth of Beaverstone Bay, in the Municipality of Killarney. 

Beaverstone Bay is about 24 kilometres east of the Killarney village. 

Prior to police arrival, the caller located and recovered the boater, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Manitoulin OPP Marine Unit and the Canadian Coast Guard attended the scene to assist.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Kevin Boggs, age 66, from Baltzly Island, which is located in the Beaverstone Bay area of the Municipality of Killarney.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for Oct. 27 in Sudbury. The investigation is continuing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS). Foul play is not suspected, said police.
