Elderly woman robbed

On Sunday morning around 2:50 am, police responded to a break and enter in progress on Scarlett Street in Sudbury.

A 71-year-old woman woke up to find a man standing in her bedroom rummaging through her dresser. The woman shouted out to the man and he and a second man fled the residence with property belonging to the victim.

Police began a search of the area and located fresh footprints they followed for a distance.

This eventually led them to the two suspects, who were both arrested. The victim's property was recovered.

Police later learned the suspects had pried the victim's door to gain entry into the residence. Once inside, they disabled the downstairs telephone to prevent anyone from calling.

A 21-year-old Bancroft Drive man and 18-year-old man from Greenbay Road in Noelville have been arrested. They face charges of break and enter, possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and trespassing at night.

Both suspects spent time in jail and a bail hearing is expected Monday or Tuesday.


Marijuana found

On Saturday around 1 am, police were conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) program and they pulled over a vehicle with two male occupants inside.

Police detected a strong smell of marijuana after talking to the driver and passenger. A subsequent arrest was made and the 19-year-old passenger faces numerous charges after police say they found 86 grams of marijuana, another bag containing 8.3 grams of cocaine and a digital scale.

The suspect initially lied to police about his true identity.

He has been charged with possessing a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, obstructing police and possession of the proceeds of crime.


Pedestrian pinned

Also on Saturday around 6 pm, an unknown male was operating a pickup truck in the parking lot of the Radisson Hotel (formerly Ramada Inn). The male exited the vehicle and attended inside the hotel for a brief period of time, but while inside his vehicle rolled backwards and pinned a pedestrian to a concrete wall causing pelvic injuries.

The driver returned to his vehicle and left the scene failing to provide assistance to the injured party.

The injured male was sent to hospital with serious injuries.

The truck is described as a full-size, dark-coloured, four-wheel drive with a trailer hitch. The driver is described as a white male, approximately six feet tall, with a heavy build and dark beard.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at 675-9171.


Vehicle thefts

Police are urging people not to leave any purse, wallet or other valuables in plain view.

In the last month, someone has been gaining entry to vehicles, specifically Pontiac Sunfires and Chevrolet Cavaliers, by ?jimmying? the lock and stealing valuables.

There have been four incidents police are aware of and the same suspect is believed to have been responsible in all incidents. All incidents have occurred in the parking lots at Jackson and Barnard funeral home downtown and Lougheeds Funeral Home on Regent Street.

The male was sighted this past Saturday and is described as a white male, slim build, average height, wearing blue baggy jeans and a grey jacket with a hood on the back.

Missing teenagers

Police are seeking the public's assistance in locating two missing female teenagers.

Tierney Dietz, 15, is described as five feet tall, 110 pounds, with a slight build, pale complexion, long dark hair with brown eyes and possibly wearing jeans and a short top with a baby blue bomber jacket with a fur-trimmed hood. She was last seen Dec. 6.

Stephanie Doyle, 14, is described as five feet four inches, 126 pounds, with a pale complexion, long black hair and brown eyes. She was possibly wearing a pink jogging suit with black and white stripes on the arms and a beige and orange Columbia jacket.
