Police looking for three suspects in two robberies at same store Saturday

It sounds like something an imaginative screenwriter might come up with, but the scenario was all too real for a teenage clerk who was robbed at knifepoint twice within two hours Saturday night.

It sounds like something an imaginative screenwriter might come up with, but the scenario was all too real for a teenage clerk who was robbed at knifepoint twice within two hours Saturday night.

Greater Sudbury Police say the two robberies don't appear to be related in any way as Lagace's Confectionary on Notre Dame Avenue was robbed around 8:45 pm and then again at around 10:45 pm.

During the first incident, a lone male entered the store armed with a knife and demanded cash from the male clerk, who was working alone.

The suspect is described as a caucasian male, who stands about five-foot-eight and is between the ages of 20 and 25. He had a medium build and had a dark-coloured beard and goatee.

At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing black pants, a black three-quarter length coat, a black toque and a black hood.

He further concealed his identity by wearing black sunglasses.

The suspect fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash. There were no injuries as a result of this incident, say police.

During the second incident two hours later, two males entered the store with their faces concealed. Both were armed with knives and demanded money from the clerk, who was present with his mother and father.

The first suspect is described as a male, aged 17 to 23, with a slim build, who stands between five-foot-eight and six-feet. He was wearing a dark sweater, baggy blue jeans, a dark toque and gloves. He had a red bandana with little white symbols on it pulled up around his nose.

The second suspect was also male between the ages of 17 and 23, with the same build and height as his accomplice. He was wearing a light grey jacket, baggy blue jeans, dark toque and gloves. He had a baby blue bandana pulled up over his nose.

Police searched the area, but were unable to locate the suspects.

Both suspects were carrying dark backpacks. Both suspects threatened the victims with knives and fled with an undetermined amount of cash.

The victims again did not suffer any physical injuries, but the family members are obviously traumatized by the robberies, say police.

Anyone with information regarding either robbery is asked to contact police at 675-9171, or provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers at 675-8477.
