Police and the Ministry of Natural Resources handed out 16 tickets on March 9 to people they found to be in violation of several Acts, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Police and conservation officers focused their attention on the Panache Lake and Bear Lake areas of Greater Sudbury, according to a press release.

Two of the notices were issued to snowmobilers for Liquor Licence Act offences. Eleven tickets were issued for document-related offences, and the remaining three tickets were issued to residents found to be in violation of the Game and Fish Act.
In addition, numerous warnings were issued.

Greater Sudbury Police Service advises residents to be cautious when going on lakes at this time of year. As the weather gets warmer, the lakes become less safe to travel on.

Use good judgement when venturing out on any body of frozen water.
Fishermen are reminded that ice huts have to be off of the lakes by March 31.
