Update: Skead Road re-opened after fatal crash

Police trying to notify next of kin

Greater Sudbury Police have indicated that Skead Road at Radar Road is now open to traffic.

The road had been closed since early this morning due to a fatal motor vehicle collision.

Greater Sudbury Police issued the following tweet at around 2 p.m.

"Skead Rd will remain closed until further notice. School buses & parents/guardians are advised to take an alt route for pick-up up/drop-off."

Updated at 10:14 a.m.: Skead Road will remain closed for several more hours as Greater Sudbury Police investigate a serious motor vehicle collision that claimed the life of a woman this morning.

GSPS spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn confirmed to Sudbury.com that police are still trying to notify the woman's next of kin. The woman was declared deceased at the scene.

Sudbury.com reporter Callam Rodya is on scene. He said the collision appears to have involved a silver-coloured sedan and a transport truck. From the image Rodya shot, the truck appears to be a live bottom heavy haul truck trailer. 

Traffic investigators continue to investigate at the scene.

Updated at 8:49 a.m.: Greater Sudbury Police is now advising drivers that Skead Road is completely closed due to a two-vehicle crash involving a transport truck and a vehicle this morning.

If your day takes you into that area of the city, you'll need to find an alternate route to your destination.

Also, if you're heading to the airport this morning, police advise that you'll have to use Radar Road until further notice.

Greater Sudbury Police are on the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on Skead Road this morning.

The crash involves a transport truck and a motor vehicle. No word yet on injuries, but EMS has been called out.

The incident occurred near Freskiw Farms at Radar Road, police said in a tweet.

Commuters are advised to expect delays and are being encouraged to find an alternative route to their destinations.

The road hasn't been closed, but GSPS said there is a possibility it could be.
