Update: Arrest made in connection to murder in Spanish

At approximately 12 p.m. on July 7 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested an individual in relation to an ongoing homicide investigation.

At approximately 12 p.m. on July 7 members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) arrested an individual in relation to an ongoing homicide investigation. The individual was taken into custody without incident in the Town of Spanish and remains in custody awaiting a court appearance. 

The victim, 68 year old George Chapman, was found unresponsive outside of a residence in the Town of Spanish shortly after noon on July 4, 2017. The investigation is continuing under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) Detective Inspector Mark Zulinski.

The body of a man found outside a residence in Spanish on Tuesday has been identified and police are calling the incident a homicide.

OPP officers from the East Algoma detachment, as well as members of the Emergency Response Team and the East Algoma Crime Unit, as well as the Forensic Identification Service, were called to a home in Spanish at around noon on July 4, regarding a dead body.
 
On July 6, a post-mortem exam was conducted by the Office of the Chief Coroner for the northeast. The result of that exam is the incident is being investigated as a murder, police said.

The victim has been identified as George Chapman, 68, of Spanish.

The OPP East Algoma Crime Unit is continuing their investigation under the direction of OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) Detective Inspector Mark Zulinski.
