Ontario Provincial Police officers from the Sudbury Detachment are looking for a pair of missing shotguns discarded along Hwy. 17 between Wawa and Sault Ste. Marie.

Police were clued in to the missing weapons when they arrested a man pursuant to the Mental Health Act along Hwy. 17 east of Narin Centre Saturday.

The man told police he left his residence in Wawa with the guns in his possession but dropped them off alongside the highway fearing that in his depressed state, he may try to harm himself.

Through their investigation, police determined that a factor in the man's depression was a recent job loss.

A member of the public retrieved one of the missing guns, handing it over to the authorities, although police have been unable to locate the other two after an extensive search of the area. It is believed they were picked up by other members of the public.

Missing is a Remington 12 gauge pump action model 870 Express Magnum Shotgun with a serial number B040769M and a Franchi 12 gauge semi-automatic model 48A shotgun with a serial number 153900.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of the missing weapons is asked to call the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
