Police seek witnesses to April 30 crash between ambulance, Honda Fit on MR 35

Greater Sudbury Police are looking to speak with anyone who may have witnessed an April 30 collision between an ambulance and a black Honda Fit on Municipal Road 35 in Azilda.

The collision happened around 9:50 a.m. when the ambulance was en route to a priority medical call. The ambulance, which had its lights activated, was travelling north when it was rear-ended by the Honda Fit near Marier Street. Police said the car was travelling at a high rate of speed, and the crash caused the car to leave the road.

The collision resulted in minor injuries to those involved and required an additional ambulance to be dispatched to the original medical emergency.

“Our Traffic Management Unit is currently investigating the incident and is asking that anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the Black Honda Fit leading up to the collision to contact Constable Weber at 705- 675-9171, ext.. 6715,” said police in a news release.

“We would also like to remind drivers of the legal requirement to immediately pull to the right and stop when it is safe to do so if you encounter any emergency vehicle with emergency lights activated.”

Those failing to move over for emergency vehicles can be charged under the Highway Traffic Act and face a set fine of $400 and three demerit points.
