A pre-trial for the murder of 20-year-old Allan Ashawasagai is scheduled for Aug. 13.

The 17-year-old female suspect, who cannot be named under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, faced charges of second-degree murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and breach of probation after Ashawasagai was killed in a Bloor Street home on June 3.

The suspect appeared in court Thursday via CCTV from the Near North Youth Centre in North Bay.

The centre is a temporary detainment centre for young females who have become involved with the criminal justice system.

It offers cognitive behaviour programs such as drug consequences, peer counselling and life skills.

After the Aug. 13 pre-trial, the matter of the trial is expected to be addressed Aug. 21.
