Update Wednesday, Aug. 31

Members of the Traffic Management Unit have completed their investigation. Speed was determined to be a contributing factor leading up to the collision. As a result, the operator of the motorcycle has been charged with careless driving. Greater Sudbury Police would like to thank witnesses who came forward with respect to this incident.

Police said the collision remains under investigation. They have asked any witnesses who have not met with investigators to contact the traffic management unit at 705-675-9171 ext. 2415.

Greater Sudbury Police have fully re-opened Regent Street following a collision between a motorcycle and van earlier this afternoon. 

The investigation is continuing, however, as police continue to interview witnesses.

Meanwhile, the motorcycle rider, a 52-year-old male, is in stable condition, but is in hospital suffering from serious injuries.

Greater Sudbury Police expect to complete their investigation and re-open Regent Street by 3:30 p.m. today. The Traffic Management Unit is expected to have its investigation wrapped up by then.

A motorcycle driver was sent to hospital with serious injuries in a collision this afternoon with a van on Regent Street, close to the McDonald's Restaurant.

The collision was called in at 12:55 p.m., said Staff Sgt. Marc Brunette of the Greater Sudbury Police.

Regent Street remains closed between Caswell Drive and Paris Street as Greater Sudbury Police investigate.

Sudbury Transit user should note that Transit Route 819, Copper/Four Corners, is delayed. It had to be re-routed as police investigate the crash.

A collision between a motorcycle and a passenger has closed part of Regent Street.

The road is closed from Caswell Drive to Paris Street. Drivers should use an alternate route to reach their destinations in that area of the city. The area near the crash is also closed to pedestrian traffic.

Fire, ambulance and police are on scene, but there's no word on injuries as of yet.
