If you saw a heavy police presence on College Street Tuesday night, they were responding to a call about a dispute between two individuals and a possible gunshot — which turned out to be fireworks.

Greater Sudbury Police spokesperson Kaitlyn Dunn said that around 8:50 p.m. on July 14, they received a call about a disturbance in a laneway outside of a residence on College Street.

Callers said two individuals were heard fighting and that a firearm might be involved based on the sound of a "gunshot."

Officers arrived quickly and located the two individuals involved in the confrontation, a 31-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man.

It was determined the two were involved in a verbal dispute, and the “gunshot” sound was actually a firework that had been set off.
