The Greater Sudbury Police Services are investigating how Dennis Paul Haines, 33, escaped from court security Monday following a preliminary hearing on allegations he committed a robbery at a Sudbury bank in May.

Haines was found by police on Davidson Street near Sudbury Secondary School around 5 pm Tuesday.

Monday?s testimony took place at the courthouse inside the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines building at 159 Cedar St. He managed to escape
from court security in the parking lot outside the courthouse on Elm St. as he was being returned to jail.

Haines was surrounded by two court security officers when his preliminary hearing continued Thursday.

Haines was considered armed and dangerous by police following his escape as he has a history of violent crime, said Police Chief Ian Davidson, who
held a news conference Tuesday after Haines was captured.
