Updated: Young driver killed in early-morning crash on MR35

21-year-old female passenger hospitalized with serious injuries

A 19-year-old man is dead following a early-morning crash on Municipal Road 35, while a 21-year-old female passenger is in hospital with serious injuries. 

The single-vehicle crash happened at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, said Greater Sudbury Police in a press release.

The man was driving a 2005 silver Infinity G35 travelling north on MR 35 towards Azilda when the vehicle left the roadway and ended up in the ditch. 

Both the driver and passenger were transported to hospital with serious injuries, where the man later succumbed to his injuries.

His name won't be released out of respect for the family. 

Anyone with information related to the collision is asked to contact Greater Sudbury Police Services' Traffic Management Unit at 705-675-9171 ex. 2307.

All lanes of Municipal Road 35 have been reopened.

The roadway is now open to one lane in each direction. Police say two adults (a man and a woman) were transported to hospital with serious injuries.

There is still an ongoing investigation at the crash scene, so please slow down and drive with caution in the area.

Municipal Road 35 is still closed in both directions after a serious single motor vehicle collision in the Azilda area early Wednesday morning.

Greater Sudbury Police first sent out a tweet about the collision, which occurred at Gagnon Street in Azilda and resulted in serious injuries, at around 3:30 a.m.

In an update posted to Twitter at around 6:20 a.m., police said traffic is still being rerouted from the area. Westbound traffic is being rerouted at the Lasalle extension and eastbound traffic is being rerouted at Notre Dame Avenue in Azilda.

The public is asked to avoid the area.
