Updated: Police release names of the two people who died in Hwy. 17 collisions Tuesday

Sudbury's Lise Myre and Cornwall's Jennifer Bastasich died the same day in two separate crashes on Hwy. 17 in the Sudbury area

The OPP have released the names of the two people who died in two separate fatal crashes on Highway 17 in the Sudbury area April 17.

Thirty-three-year-old Jennifer Bastasich of Cornwall was pronounced dead at the scene after a single-vehicle collision involving a transport truck crashing into a rock cut on Highway 17 in the Walden area at around 6:19 a.m. Tuesday. She was a passenger in the truck. The truck's driver, Kimberly-Ann Warden, also from Cornwall, was charged with careless driving.

As well, 65-year-old Lise Myre of Sudbury died after a collision between a SUV and a transport truck on Highway 17 east of Markstay at around 10:20 a.m. Tuesday. Myre was the driver of the SUV. The transport truck's driver sustained minor injuries. No charges are being laid in this case. 

The OPP says road and weather conditions were not a factor in either crash.

Highway 17 was closed for about 12 hours in the Walden area and for about seven hours in the Markstay area after the crashes.

Highway 17 is now fully reopened in both the Walden and Markstay areas after two separate fatal crashes Tuesday, the OPP said on Twitter shortly after 7 p.m. last night.

The westbound lane on Highway 17 between Whitefish and Lively has been re-opened following a fatal collision this morning. 

The OPP have not updated whether a section of Highway 17 east of Markstay has been re-opened. The road was closed after another fatal collision between Highway 537 and Highway 535.

The driver of an SUV is dead after the vehicle collided with a tractor trailer on Highway 17 east of Markstay this morning, said the Ontario Provincial Police.

The crash happened around 10:20 a.m.

The driver of the tractor trailer suffered minor injuries.

OPP technical collision investigators are on scene. Both the eastbound and westbound lanes will remain closed until the investigation is complete.

There's detours via Highway 537 and Highway 535.

The name of the deceased subject is not being released at this time pending the notification of the next of kin.

One person is dead and another was transported to hospital after a tractor-trailer crashed into a rock cut on Highway 17 in the Walden area Tuesday morning at around 6:19 a.m., the OPP said in a press release.

The name of the deceased is not being released at this time pending the notification of next of kin.

The westbound lanes of the highway remain closed between Lively and Whitefish as the OPP investigate the collision.

There is a detour in place on Municipal Road 55.

The crash on Highway 17 near Hagar this morning is also fatal, the OPP said on one of their Twitter accounts at 11:47 a.m.

There's detours via Highway 537 and Highway 535.

Highway 17 is now closed in two separate areas in this region.

The highway is closed between Highway 537 and Highway 535 in the Markstay area due to a collision. The reopening time is unknown. No further information about this crash is currently available.

Highway 17 is also currently closed between Lively and Whitefish after an early-morning, single-vehicle crash involving a tractor trailer running into a rock cut. Other local media are reporting that this crash was fatal.

The OPP say they're investigating a "serious crash" on Highway 17 involving a tractor-trailer colliding with a rock cut. It was single-vehicle crash. The westbound lanes of Highway 17 between Lively and Whitefish are still closed. It's unknown when the road will reopen.

The westbound lanes of Highway 17 are closed between Lively and Whitefish this morning after a single-vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer early this morning.

The OPP said there's a detour using Municipal Road 55.

The reopening time is unknown.

There's been a single-vehicle collision involving a tractor-trailer on Highway 17 westbound at Bay Street in the Naughton area, the OPP said in a tweet at 6:32 a.m. Tuesday.
