Updated: Etobicoke driver facing charges after roll-over on Hwy 69 on Tuesday

Driver, 18, was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

An 18-year-old driver from Etobicoke is facing charges after a single-vehicle roll-over on Highway 69 sent him to hospital in Sudbury on June 16.

Sudbury OPP and Sudbury EMS were dispatched to the crash scene on Highway 69 just south of Nelson Road in Burwash Township (Estaire) at 6:55 a.m. yesterday. 

“Investigation revealed at approximately 6 a.m., officers had received a traffic complaint regarding this vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed,” police report. “The car was southbound on Highway 69 when it left the roadway and struck a rock cut, which caused the vehicle to roll-over.”

The driver and lone occupant was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  

As a result of the investigation, the 18-year-old driver was charged with careless driving and failure to comply with a release order.

He was released by way of an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on July 29 in Sudbury.

The southbound lanes were closed for approximately two hours as a result of the crash.

The southbound lanes of Highway 69 are now fully reopened after a single-vehicle rollover south of Greater Sudbury near the Nelson Road exit early Tuesday morning, the OPP reported at 10:27 a.m.

The southbound lanes of Highway 69 are now reopened to one lane after a single-vehicle roll-over crash south of Greater Sudbury early Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred south of the Nelson Road exit. The crash initially closed the southbound lanes of the highway between Estaire and the Killarney turnoff.

One person was taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The Nipissing West OPP say they are continuing to investigate the crash.
