Six people are in custody after a violent home invasion overnight left a person with a gunshot wound.
At approximately 2 a.m. on Feb. 13, Greater Sudbury Police officers were dispatched to the scene of a home invasion and shooting at a residence on Lasalle Boulevard.
“The homeowner sustained minor injuries following a brief physical altercation, including a non-life-threatening wound from a gunshot,” police said in a news release today.
Police arrived quickly and observed three males running from the scene.
“One suspect entered a waiting motor vehicle occupied by a man and a woman,” the release states. “Police were able to quickly contain the suspect vehicle and arrest all three individuals without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed illicit drugs and a firearm.”
The Emergency Response Unit and the K9 Unit were dispatched to search the area as well for the remaining suspects.
“One suspect was located and arrested without incident in an unoccupied commercial vehicle at a business nearby on Lasalle Boulevard, where a firearm and illicit drugs were recovered,” police said. “The third suspect was found and arrested without incident at a separate nearby business on Lasalle Boulevard, also found to be in possession of illicit drugs.”
A fourth suspect was also identified but not located overnight. That suspect went to GSPS headquarters downtown at around 8:30 a.m. today and surrendered themselves to police.
Among the four males involved were two 16-year-olds from Southern Ontario, an 18-year-old from Southern Ontario and a 24-year-old from Greater Sudbury. They have been all been charged with the following offences:
- Attempt Murder
- Break and Enter to Commit an Indictable Offence
- Disguise with Intent
- Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, to wit: Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, to wit: Fentanyl
Police also seized 200 grams of cocaine and 100 grams of fentanyl, with a total estimated street value of $30,000.
“Additionally, all four individuals face numerous firearms-related charges under the Criminal Code of Canada,” police said.
The names of those involved have not been released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process. All four individuals are currently being held in police custody, awaiting future court dates.
The two people in the getaway vehicle, a 37-year-old man and 37-year-old woman both of Greater Sudbury, are also charged with:
- Accessory after the fact
- Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, to wit: Cocaine
- Possession of a Schedule I controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, to wit: Fentanyl
The 37-year-old man also faces a charge of breach of probation.
Their names cannot be released as the information has not yet been sworn to through the court process. The man and woman are being held in custody pending a court date.
“At this time, Police are in the process of applying for search warrants for two residences in Greater Sudbury,” GSPS said. “This was a targeted incident where the individuals involved were known to each other. There is currently no known threat to public safety.”
