An 18-year-old man drove his vehicle through a red light and hit another vehicle on Nov. 22.
When Greater Sudbury Police officers arrived, the man was arrested for impaired driving. With only a novice driver's licence, he was charged for having alcohol above zero in his system, as well as failing to stop.
This was one of six impaired driving arrests police outlined in a press release.
On Nov. 8, a 64-year-old man was seen driving very slowly, continually hitting the breaks and driving into the oncoming lane. A traffic stop was initiated, and the driver exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. He was arrested for impaired driving and breath tests confirmed alcohol over the legal limit.
On Nov. 12, a 45-year-old man was charged with impaired after police received information that a vehicle was swerving within its lane and speeding. The vehicle was pulled over and the driver exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside test registered a fail and additional breath tests confirmed alcohol over the legal limit.
On Nov. 21, a 49-year-old man was charged with impaired after police received information that an impaired driver was travelling from Chelmsford to Copper Cliff. Officers located the vehicle and the driver exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside test registered a fail and subsequent breath tests confirmed alcohol over the legal limit.
On Nov. 22, a 32-year-old man was charged with impaired and Highway Traffic Act offences when officers initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle due to it having no plates or proper validation. The driver exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside test was administered and the driver registered a fail. Additional breath tests confirmed alcohol over the legal limit. The driver had a suspended driver’s licence, and there was no insurance for this vehicle.
On Nov. 24, a 35-year-old man was charged with impaired when he was seen speeding. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. A roadside test registered a fail and additional breath tests confirmed alcohol over the legal limit.
