Police say engineers design highways to ensure the safe and orderly movement of motor vehicles and speed limits are set according to the type of area the particular highway travels, be it residential, commercial or rural.

Speeding means more time to stop a motor vehicle and increased danger to other users of the roads and pedestrians, including children, who may be walking along or near roadways.

Selected members of the general patrol and traffic management unit are now targeting high complaint areas.

The initiative will be run through Nov. 6 and police will be implementing a zero tolerance policy.
