Last week?s front page story reporting the mess left behind by ice fishers on Green?s Lake has caused the owners of an ice hut some grief.

An ice hut owned by the Rochefort family of Capreol went missing shortly after the story appeared in the May 1 edition. The owners say they took the hut off the ice but couldn?t get it off Crown property because the road was too soft.

The hut was described in Northern Life as abandoned in a clearing on the south of Green?s Lake.

?Judging by the newness of the wood, I?d estimate that there?s about $600 worth building materials that have just been left to rot by someone,? said a Ministry of Natural Resources spokesperson.

That gave one of our readers an idea. When the Rocheforts arranged to have their hut removed from the lake area late last week, it was gone.

Police have told the family there is nothing they can do to help them unless the Rocheforts provide information about who may have the hut. Anyone who has information is asked to phone 858-5079.
