Update: MR 55 crash claims life of woman, 47

Updated March 28 at 5:50 p.m.: Greater Sudbury Police have advised that MR55 is now fully reopened following a crash earlier this morning. 

Updated March 28 at 11:10 a.m.: Greater Sudbury Police say a crash on Municipal Road 55 earlier this morning claimed the life of a woman and sent a man to hospital.

The crash occurred on Municipal Road 55 at Magill Street/Mumford Road, which is close to Lively, at around 6:30 a.m. March 28. The vehicles involved were a pickup truck and a transport truck.

The driver of the transport, a 31-year-old man, sustained minor injuries. The driver and sole occupant of the pickup, a 47-year-old woman, has been pronounced dead. Her name will not be released out of respect for her family's wishes.

Municipal Road 55 is partially reopened. The lanes of MR55 headed toward Sudbury (northeast) have been reopened, but the lanes headed toward Lively (southwest) remained closed as police investigate the crash.

Updated March 28 at 8:40 a.m.: Greater Sudbury Police now say both directions of Municipal Road 55 are closed after a serious collision early Tuesday morning.

The collision took place on Municipal Road 55 at Magill Street/Mumford Road, which is close to Lively.

Barricades are set up at Fielding Road and the gate closed at Municipal Road 55/Highway 17 to re-route traffic.

Police ask that people find an alternate route, avoiding Municipal Road 55.
