Southerners among those charged in Atikameksheng First Nation drug bust

A drug bust on Atikameksheng First Nation Nov. 1 resulted in charges against four people, two of them from Southern Ontario.

A search warrant was executed by the OPP on Lakeshore Drive Nov. 1, resulting in the seizure of a rifle, cell phones, Canadian currency and drugs suspected to be cocaine, with an estimated street value of over $11,000. 

As a result of the investigation, four people were arrested and charged:

A 28-year-old man from Atikameksheng First Nation, was charged with:

  • Trafficking in schedule I substance
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Breach of firearms regulation-store firearm or restricted weapon
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

A 50-year-old woman from Atikameksheng First Nation, was charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Trafficking in schedule I substance
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000

A 22-year-old Newmarket man and a 21-year-old Kitchener man were both charged with:

  • Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking
  • Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000

All the accused were released and are scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice Dec. 18 in Sudbury.
