Speeding driver caught with cannabis in the car

Traffic stop for speeding reveals driver had marijuana readily available

A 22-year-old man from Elliot Lake was charged with speeding and drive vehicle with cannabis readily available.

On Jan. 6, at approximately 2:48 p.m., OPP Traffic Incident Management Efficiency (TIME) team members conducted a traffic stop for a speeding violation on Highway 17 in Greater Sudbury.

During the traffic stop police determined that cannabis was readily available to the driver.

As a result of the investigation, a 22-year-old man from Elliot Lake  was charged with speeding and drive vehicle with cannabis readily available.

"The OPP is committed to road safety for all Ontarians and is enforcing the new laws and rules around cannabis which are a combination of federal and provincial cannabis legislation," said an OPP news release.

It is an offence to drive or have the care or control of a vehicle or boat, whether or not it is in motion, while any cannabis is contained in the vehicle or boat.
