Speeding on Hwy. 69 leads to drug charges for three Sudbury women

An OPP West Parry Sound Detachment traffic stop led to the arrest of Amy Lam, Tracy Rickard and Jennifer Nahwegahbo (File).

Three Sudbury women were arrested and charged following a traffic stop Jan. 16 by the Ontario Provincial Police West Parry Sound Detachment.

At around 6:41 p.m., OPP tried to stop a vehicle speeding on Hwy 69 in the Parry Sound district. After failing to stop for police, the licence plate number of the vehicle in question was distributed to OPP Sudbury detachment members. 

The vehicle was later located by OPP in Sudbury, where a spike belt was deployed and successfully stopped the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation the following persons, all from Sudbury, Ontario, were arrested and charged:
Amy LAM, 33 years of age, was charged with:

  • Flight from Peace Officer contrary to section 320.17 of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
  • Dangerous Operation contrary to section 320.13(1) of the CC X 2;
  • Operation while Prohibited contrary to section 320.18 of the CC; and
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

Tracy RICKARD, 44 years of age, was charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the CC X 2; and
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

Jennifer NAHWEGAHBO, 32 years of age, was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA)

Nahwegahbo was released with a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on Feb. 27. Lam was held for bail and later released on a recognizance with a next court appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on Jan. 30. Rickard has also been held on bail but remains in custody with a next court appearance before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on Jan. 31.
