Sudbury man, 76, and former teacher accused of sexually assaulting student in 1970

A Sudbury man has been charged by Toronto Police with sexual assault from an incident that’s alleged to have occurred in 1970. 

The 76-year-old was taken into custody by the OPP on Oct. 21 and transported to Toronto. He appeared in court at Old City Hall on Oct. 22.

Police allege the assault occurred in 1970 when the man was the accuser’s, who was then a young boy, elementary school teacher.

Toronto Police said in a news release they are concerned there may be other victims. 

The accused, James Hicks, 76, of Sudbury, worked as a teacher in Toronto from the 1970s through the 1990s. He was also a hockey coach, police said.
