A 43-year-old Sudbury man is facing drugged driving charges after crashing his vehicle on Highway 17 May 28.

The Nipissing West OPP responded to the single-vehicle crash in Greater Sudbury at 1:14 p.m. that afternoon.

While speaking to the driver, it was determined the driver was impaired by drugs, say the OPP. The driver was arrested and transported to the North Bay OPP Detachment for further testing by a Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

As a result of the investigation, the man was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)

The accused was released on an appearance notice, and is scheduled to appear in Sudbury court June 30.

The accused was issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for 45 days.

This incident marks the 27th driver charged under the criminal impaired driving laws in the Nipissing West Detachment area in 2021.
