Sudbury men accused of driving while impaired near Cochrane

Two men from Sudbury face impaired driving charges after provincial police responded to a possible drunk driver on Highway 574 near Cochrane on April 29.

After speaking with the driver and the passenger, officers determined both occupants of the motor vehicle had consumed alcoholic beverages.

The driver, a 31-year-old man from Sudbury, is charged with impaired driving, assaulting a peace officer, driving while prohibited, resisting arrest, having cannabis readily available, driving while having an open container of liquor available, and driving without insurance.

A 33-year-old man from Sudbury, who police said also attempted to drive the vehicle, is charged with impaired, assaulting a peace officer, driving while prohibited and resisting arrest.

Both men were held for bail and scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on April 30 in the Town of Cochrane. The vehicle was impounded for 45 days.
