Greater Sudbury Police have arrested a 44-year-old man believed to be responsible for a string of commercial break and enters this spring and summer.

A GSPS media release states that there were eight commercial break and enters that were reported by local businesses in the New Sudbury area between April 15 to July 4, 2021.

Detectives with the Greater Sudbury Police Break Enter and Robbery (BEAR) unit assigned to the case connected the 44-year-old man with at least five of the break and enters.

After a search warrant was issued on July 13 to the BEAR unit, officers headed toward the man’s residence on The Kingsway.

The search revealed the stolen property, clothing and the bicycle the man allegedly used during the crimes, as well as a small grow operation in the residence that is in contravention of the Cannabis Act.

The man has been charged with:

  • Break, Enter and Committing x2
  • Break and Enter with Intent x3
  • Mischief
  • Mischief to Property Under $5,000
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Theft Under $5,000
  • Possess, produce, sell, distribute or import anything with intention to use it to produce, sell or distribute illicit
  • Cannabis (Cannabis Act)

The investigation is ongoing with the other break and enters that are not connected to the aforementioned suspect.

The accused attended bail court Wednesday. Additional charges are pending, say Greater Sudbury Police.
