Updated: Murder at Travelodge Hotel was a double homicide

Police found two men who had sustained ‘what are believed to be gunshot wounds’

Greater Sudbury Police are investigating a double murder that happened at the Travelodge Hotel early Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 2 a.m. this morning, Dec. 20, officers were dispatched to a hotel on Paris Street at Walford Road (the Travelodge) in relation to a weapons complaint, as there were reports of gunshots.

Upon arrival, officers located two men who had sustained what are believed to be gunshot wounds. 

A 27-year-old man was transported to the hospital by City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services. 

Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased by medical professionals. 

The second man — who has not yet been identified — was pronounced deceased on scene.

Post mortems will be conducted through the Coroner’s Office in order to assist in confirming the cause of death and in order to confirm the identity of the second individual.

Greater Sudbury Police said they currently have three people believed to be involved in the incident in custody, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing. Information related to these individuals and the charges will be provided as the investigation unfolds, police said.  

This is believed to be a targeted and isolated incident.

Officers will remain on scene and in the area in order to canvass for information and video surveillance footage.

Greater Sudbury Police said to expect a heavy police presence in the Walford Road/Paris Street area, as officers are on the scene of a homicide at a local hotel.

"This is a targeted and isolated incident," said a tweet from police, which was issued at 5:31 a.m. Dec. 20. "Pedestrian traffic is asked to avoid the area. Update to follow."
