Man's death in Capreol deemed to be natural

Updated April 20 at 1:45 p.m.: Greater Sudbury Police said today their investigation into the death of a Capreol man, found deceased in his home following a wellness check April 18, was not suspicious.

At approximately 6:40 p.m. on April 18, officers were dispatched to a residence on Morin Street in Capreol for a welfare check, as the community member had not been seen or heard from in a few days. 

When officers arrived on scene and entered the home, they located a 69-year-old man deceased.

A post-mortem examination determined the man's death was natural. The scene on Morin Street has been released and police will no longer be in the area.

Greater Sudbury Police are investigating a suspicious death in Capreol. 

At approximately 6:40 p.m. on April 18, officers were dispatched to a residence on Morin Street in Capreol for a welfare check, as the community member had not been seen or heard from in a few days. 

When officers arrived on scene and entered the home, they located a 69-year-old man deceased.

Based on the investigation, this is being treated as a suspicious death and detectives from the Major Crime Section of the GSPS Criminal Investigation Division will be working in collaboration with the Coroner’s Office.

A post-mortem will be conducted tomorrow, April 20, to assist in determining a cause of death.

Patrol officers are and will continue to be on scene and members of the Criminal Investigation Division will be canvassing in the area for any information or video surveillance footage.
