Greater Sudbury Police arrested an Elliot Lake man wanted on several charges stemming from charges in July of 2021 and a failure to appear in court to address those charges in November.

On Dec. 15, GSPS interacted with the wanted man and learned the East Algoma detachment of the OPP had numerous warrants out for the 41-year old, who was returned to Elliot Lake and held for bail.

The charges stem from July 4, 2021, the East Algoma OPP was advised by Chapleau OPP members that a silver Dodge Ram pick-up truck was involved in a motor vehicle collision, fled the scene, and failed to stop for police. It was last seen travelling southbound on Highway 129. Police intercepted the silver Ram and a spike belt was successfully deployed. The vehicle safely stopped and the driver was arrested. The driver emanated a strong odour of alcoholic beverage from their breath and exhibited signs of intoxication.

Then, on July 12, 2021, a complainant reported that his neighbour on Hutchison Avenue had backed into their vehicle and then departed in a separate vehicle without saying anything. In addition, the complainant also said they were threatened by the same neighbour on the previous night.

The 41-year-old man from Elliot Lake was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, operation while prohibited,  failure to stop after an accident, flight from a peace officer and refusal to comply with a demand, as well as uttering threats.

He was then charged in November for two counts of failure to appear in court.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Jan. 9.
