Greater Sudbury Police are reminding members of the public that 911 is reserved for critical emergencies, and is not the number to call if your car gets stuck.

With the city dealing with a major snow storm – one that includes winter thunder and lightning – police are extremely busy with emergencies.

“Please do not call our emergency communication centre (911 or the 705 number) if your vehicle becomes stuck on a road,” police said in a tweet Wednesday.

“Officers are responding to emergencies. Please calls a tow truck and activate your hazard lights.”

Environment Canada has forecast as much as 25 centimetres of snow for today, but the skies are expected to clear on Thursday.
