Sudbury woman arrested in Timmins bust that netted $28K of suspected fentanyl, cocaine

Traffic stop resulted in flight from police, suspects were tracked down by K9 unit and tactical officers

A Toronto-area teen who was charged with kidnapping-related offences in Timmins last month is facing new charges after police say a vehicle fled from police early Sunday morning. 

Three people have been charged as a result of the incident. South Porcupine OPP said an estimated $28,000 worth of suspected fentanyl and cocaine were seized. 

Jan. 9 around 3 a.m. South Porcupine OPP said a traffic stop was initiated on Riverside Drive in Timmins. 

The vehicle fled the scene and was later found on Highway 101 east of South Porcupine where two of the vehicle's three occupants fled on foot. The suspects were located with the help of the K9 unit and Emergency Response Team. The OPP's Community Street Crime Unit also helped with the investigation.

A 19-year-old from Toronto was charged with:

  • Flight from peace officer 
  • Dangerous operation 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 
  • Two counts of failure to comply with undertaking 
  • Obstruct peace officer 
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine 
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin) 
  • Fail to remain contrary to section 200(1)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA)

The teen was also recently charged by Timmins Police after an incident at a Mountjoy Street South resident on Dec. 20. In that incident, police allege two people were held against their will and assaulted until one of the men held captive escaped and sought police.

The accused remains in police custody and is scheduled for a bail hearing on Jan. 13. 

A 22-year-old from Toronto is charged with: 

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine 
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin) 
  • Unauthorized possession of a weapon 
  • Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose 
  • Obstruct peace officer 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 

The accused is out on a release order and slated to appear in court on Jan. 27 in Timmins.

And finally, a 29-year-old Sudbury woman was charged with:

  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - cocaine 
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking - opioid (other than heroin)
  • Possession of a Schedule I substance - cocaine 
  • Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000

She had a bail hearing this week.
