Driving while suspended led to the arrest of two local men for suspicion of methamphetamine possession and for possessing a fake gun.
Manitoulin Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release that the Oct. 28 incident began around 4 a.m. on Highway 17 west of Sudbury. Police spotted a person known to be a suspended driver getting into the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
Police followed the vehicle westbound on Highway 17 near McKerrow and pulled the vehicle over in Baldwin Township.
“Further investigation led to officers locating over 900 tablets of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $4,500, and an imitation firearm inside the vehicle,” police said.
Both individuals in the vehicle were arrested and charged.
The 25-year-old driver, a Sudbury man, is charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
- Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
- Driving while under suspension - two counts
The passenger, a 42-year-old man from Spanish, is charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking - methamphetamine
- Possession of imitation weapon for dangerous purpose
- Failure to comply with probation order - two counts
- Failure to comply with release order
Both accused individuals appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice Bail Court in Sudbury on Oct. 28 and were remanded into custody.
