Sometimes things just don’t go your way.

Yesterday morning, four would-be thieves thought perhaps the early bird would get the worm when they tried to force their way into a West End home to rob the place.

The owner of the Spruce Street home called police at 8:35 a.m. as the break-in was occurring. Moreover, the caller said told police he (or she, police weren’t specific about the caller’s gender) actually knew the four people — two men and two women — who were trying to rob him.

The foursome kicked in the door and window to enter the home and made off with, of all things, a leather jacket, before fleeing in a vehicle.

It didn’t take long for officers with the Greater Sudbury Police BEAR Unit (Break Enter and Robbery) to find the vehicle and the four suspects downtown. All were arrested without incident, police said.

Charged are:

  • A 39-year-old man with robbery, possession of a dangerous weapon, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of probation;
  • A 41-year-old man with robbery;
  • A 35-year-old woman with robbery and obstructing police; and
  • A 32-year-old woman with robbery, possession of property obtained by crime and breach of probation.

Because this was a targeted robbery and not a random act, police say there is no concern for public safety.
