A Sudbury driver is facing charges after police allege he fled an accident scene on foot after ditching a vehicle on Highway 17.
Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police officers, Greater Sudbury Fire Services and Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services responded to the incident May 17 just after 6 p.m. on Highway 17, east of Mill Road near Wahnapitae.
Police said the crash involved a vehicle with four occupants that left the road and collided with the ditch.
“Two occupants fled from the scene, while the two occupants that remained received minor injuries and were treated by paramedic services,” OPP said in a news release. “A short time later, the other two occupants were located.”
The driver of the vehicle, a 57-year-old Sudbury man who police say is under a driving suspension, is charged with:
- Failure or refusal to comply with demand
- Dangerous operation
- Driving while under suspension.
The man was release with a June 12 court date at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury.
The driver was also issued a 90-day Administrative Driver's Licence Suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
