A Dec. 16, 2018 crash that claimed the life of a North Bay woman has resulted in charges for a Sudbury teen.

The two-vehicle crash occurred at 3:22 p.m. that day on Highway 17 near Kukagami Lake Road between Wahnapitae and Markstay. The head-on collision closed the highway for about five hours.

A 53-year-old North Bay woman was killed in the crash, while an 18-year-old Sudbury teen was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Both women were the sole occupants of the vehicles. No other vehicles were involved.

The incident was investigated by the Sudbury OPP and the OPP Technical Collision Investigations (TCI) Unit.

The young woman has now been charged with careless driving causing death. She is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on Feb. 11. Conviction can result in a fine between $2000 and $50,000, and up to two years imprisonment, or both, and a possible driver's licence suspension of not more than five years.
