A female teenager has been charged with abduction after an eight-month-old child was removed from a Rumball Terrace residence on Regent Street during early morning hours Saturday.

The parents of the child were sleeping when the female guest took the child and left the residence, say Greater Sudbury Police.

A large contingent of officers became involved in a city-wide search and the missing child was located unharmed at another residence on Regent Street.

The 18-year-old girl, who faces on count of abduction, spent the weekend in jail and is facing a bail hearing early this week.

Police have confirmed the young girl was living on the street and was befriended by a woman, who allowed the girl to stay at her residence.

Police are believed to have witnessed the girl leaving the Rumball Terrace building by using a videotape monitoring system located at the front entrance of the building.
