On March 24 at around 2:15 a.m., Sudbury OPP entered into a traffic investigation involving a motorist traveling more than 50 km/h over the speed limit on Highway 69 in Greater Sudbury.

As a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old man from Greater Sudbury was charged with race motor vehicle - excessive speed.

The driver was issued a Part III Summons and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on April 29.

The vehicle he was operating was impounded for seven days and his driver's licence was suspended for seven days.

The Sudbury OPP is reminding motorists that traffic safety is one of the OPP's core functions. Speeding remains one of the leading causes of motor vehicle collisions and fatalities on OPP-patrolled roads.
