At least one local teen doesn't seem to have gotten the message local police are trying to get across during National Teen Driver Safety Week.
Greater Sudbury Police have partnered with the Sudbury & District Health Unit and Parachute Canada to raise awareness about the dangers of distracted driving among the city's youngest motorists.
An officer was looking for “positive ticketing” opportunities Wednesday afternoon, looking for students near a local high school who were doing the right thing while behind the wheel.
That includes wearing seatbelts, not using hand-held communication devices, not speeding and not driving aggressively.
But soon after students were dismissed, the first vehicle that exited the school parking lot had a teen driver using her cell phone, said police in a post on their Facebook page.
The driver was stopped and charged.
