A Sudbury teenager will spend the next nine months behind bars accessing treatment for a serious alcohol problem after pleading guilty to stabbing a stranger while severely intoxicated outside a pizza joint just over a month ago.

Andrew Fox, 18, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault Friday.

Justice Guy Mahaffy said the nine-month sentence was ?the bare minimum? he would consider as the attack, which happened April 26, was unprovoked.

Mahaffy ordered Fox do his time at the Northern Treatment Centre in Sault Ste. Marie, where he can access counselling for his serious alcohol abuse problem and get help for anger management.

Fox was also placed on probation for one year and ordered not to consume alcohol at any time. He was prohibited from owning or possessing any knife or prohibited weapon for 10 years and ordered to submit a DNA sample for a national crime data bank.
