Teen girl faces weapons, assault charges

A 15-year-old girl faces weapons and assault charges following a fight on King Street on Aug. 16, said Greater Sudbury Police Service. Police attended a call on King Street near Omar Legault Lane shortly after 8 p.m. for a weapons disturbance.

A 15-year-old girl faces weapons and assault charges following a fight on King Street on Aug. 16, said Greater Sudbury Police Service.

Police attended a call on King Street near Omar Legault Lane shortly after 8 p.m. for a weapons disturbance. Police were told there was a huge fight involving several persons, and that one person involved had a knife and someone had been stabbed.

When police arrived on scene, they saw the 15-year-old girl waving a knife. She was arrested at gunpoint. As other officers arrived, subsequent arrests were made of several involved people.

The investigation determined there was an incident earlier in a nearby apartment. As a result, three people broke into that apartment intent on committing assault, said police. The altercation spilled onto the street where nearby witnesses called police.

One suspect was taken to hospital with a serious but non-life-threatening injury and was later released after treatment.

The teenage girl is one of five people charged in the incident. A 17-year-old male faces charges of assault causing bodily harm.

An adult male and two adult females were arrested for break, enter with intent to assault. One of the women was additionally arrested for assault, uttering threats and breaching her court orders. All were held for a bail hearing.

The teenage girl will appear in court at a later date to answer to her charges.
